Admit it: Some of the wealthiest people in America are those who had the audacity to actually sit down one day and attempt to create something unusual: Think about Bill Gates with Microsoft, or Mark Zuckerberg with Facebook. A simple idea can go a long way to the bank, especially in the ever-expanding solar job world. Why not become your own green solar inventor? When you consider these few ideas/tips to propel your thought process forward, you might realize it’s easier than you think.

1) Simply look around your home, and make a list of anything that requires energy to work. Then, ask yourself: How can I turn this object into something that draws its power from the sun? If you come up with an idea and find that you aren’t creative enough to physically create the invention yourself, consult a company that will present your product idea to possible manufacturers and perform patent research for you.

2) Consider the fact that solar products created for one setting easily can be converted for use in another setting. For example, think about a niche market in which an existing solar product easily could find a new home: How about solar energy devices for motor homes, boats or even bicycles? The ideas are endless if you begin to think outside the box.

3) Maybe you are better with the pen than with the screwdriver. If so, consider creating your own informational material about solar products –something that will come in handy for homeowners or business owners who are considering installing solar devices on their properties. For instance, conduct research and produce your own reports, green electronic books or instructional DVDs. In-demand information can come with a generous price tag.

If you are interested in developing your own solar energy business – and having the freedom and financial promise that come along with it – now is the time to put on your “solar energy thinking cap” and seriously begin researching an idea that will add a little sunshine to your work life.
