Here’s a pop quiz question for you: The state of Florida can have as many as 2,927 total hours of sunshine on average each year in Tampa. The state of New Jersey can have as many as 2,499 total hours of sunshine on average annually in Atlantic City. If you were a solar energy firm, which city would be the smartest investment choice for you?
Correct answer: New Jersey
The answer might not make much sense to you on the surface, but the more you study this subject, the more you’ll realize why. We all know Florida as the “Sunshine State.” After all, it is the only U.S. state located near the Tropic of Cancer. However, in the states-level race to become the most green and efficient, New Jersey seems to be soaking up a little more sun for the greater good of the planet.
New Jersey recently was named No. 1 in solar power production, to the surprise of some. The Garden State actually installed more solar energy than any other state in America this year. On top of this, the state recently passed a “revolution bill” that will keep the production of solar power in New Jersey robust. As a result, over the next half decade, the high amount of solar energy being produced in New Jersey easily could double as requirements for the number of solar energy installations rise in the state.
Initiatives such as these are placing New Jersey high on the pedestal in terms of the state’s number of solar job opportunities. In fact, New Jersey essentially has twice the number of these green job openings as Florida does. As long as New Jersey continues to promote itself as a viable location for green businesses and private investors, the sky is the limit for jobs created by a rising Mr. Sun.
