Solar energy has been harnessed for centuries with the use of ever-evolving technological advancements. In this era, one of the most popular solar technologies is the solar panel, an assembly of photovoltaic cells that is used for generating and supplying electricity in residential and commercial units. An increasing number of housing units as well as office buildings are opting to install solar panels on their roofs to avail of the sun’s energy. In fact, the solar energy industry’s landscape has greatly varied in the past years.
If you are planning to have some of these installed on your rooftop, make sure to hire a reputable roofing contractor that will perform the job. In choosing an installation contractor, there are some factors that you might want to consider.
1. Look for several potential candidates and compile them before comparing their services and fees.
2. Check out the references of the contractors to know if there are any ethical issues confronted by the companies. You can also call the references given to you by the company and ask a few important questions to settle things.
3. Take time to verify the contractor’s workmanship. See if they have previously installed solar panels and if they offer services for every day installation, maintenance and repair of the solar electricity systems they have set up.
4. Ask the contractor for their licenses. A proper license will assure you that the contractor is highly qualified to do the job. The solar panels should be installed by qualified contractors and subcontractors that have electrical contractor’s license as well.
5. Beware of those so-called “fly-by-night” companies. Sure, they usually offer the cheapest prices out there and most of the time, these are too good to be true. Go for reputable contractors who are legally registered and recognized by respectable industry associations.
6. Also, check if the contractor has any pending or active judgments. These could affect their credibility and you might want to ditch them if they have any.
7. Ask the companies if they offer insurance. Those who have insurance are the best bets.
8. The contractor must also have on- and off-grid experience, which means that they must be able to connect the solar power system to both the battery bank and to the grid.
9. In looking for the best, make sure that the contractor has a qualified electrician to connect the solar power system to the grid.
10. The company should also be able to inform you about the installation and connection costs and they should charge you at a fair price. They must also provide warranties on labor and products.
11. The contractor must also provide free assessment of the solar panel setup.
It would be wiser to compare and contrast different solar panel contractors before settling for a single company. Aside from looking into their credentials and experiences, it is also important to set your budget allocation so you can select which contractor offers the best services at the most reasonable price.
