Employers may use Facebook to scope you out, but they aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of social media during the hiring process. You can use LinkedIn to find companies hiring for green jobs.

The first thing you’ll want to do is vamp up your profile. Treat this as your resume. In fact, you can even cut and paste directly from your resume into your profile. Make sure you complete it to 100 percent. Remember, your profile may show up in Google searches too. It’s a great way to put your best foot forward online.

Build your network! The more people you’re connected to, the more opportunities for green jobs you’ll have access to.

Of course, LinkedIn has a section where employers can post green jobs they have available. Simply go up to the search bar, select “jobs” and enter the field you’re interested in. But not all green jobs available will be posted here. To find the gold, you may have to dig.

Try going to the company directory and searching for companies in your industry. Once you identify a few, you can use the “people” search using the company names you’ve found. You may find people in your network with connections to those companies, who can give you referrals for green jobs.

Join groups. Do another search, this time for “groups” in your industry. Find a few that are popular and relevant and join up. Take part in the conversations and even post a few articles yourself. This is another great way to meet people to add to your network. The great thing is, people in your group will already be involved in your industry, and connecting with them can give you potential access to their networks.

These are a few of the most popular ways people are using LinkedIn to find green jobs. Good luck!
