Spring is around the corner, which means that things will begin to get a lot greener outdoors. Perhaps this year, you can allow your business or your company to “spring” into action, too, by becoming much greener inside-out. Green project management indeed is a growing trend, and the eco-friendly business concept is not as complicated as it might sound. Here are a few ways you can make your next work project much more environmentally friendly, thus saving you on costs in addition to saving the environment.
1) Examine your list of external vendors, and determine the percentage of those companies that are environmentally responsible. If your list is lacking in green businesses, then identify a few eco-friendly ones that you can add to your list, and make a conscious effort to purchase from these vendors. These companies could use recycled materials for their packaging or be conscientious about the distances over which they ship their goods.
2) As you manage your project, try to minimize the use of hard copies of documents and transition to using e-documents instead. Not only does this save trees but also saves printing costs and makes your documents easier to track and maintain in a database as well as distribute to the masses.
3) While completing risk planning for your organization, be sure to calculate risks to the environment before making final decisions about the processes you will use to generate your company’s products and services. Establish protections to mitigate these risks.
