Treehouses aren’t just for kids anymore. Now adults, and even entire families can have hideaways in the trees, great for playing Robin Hood and getting away from it all. Today’s treehouses have evolved from kids’ clubhouses to exciting pieces of eco real estate. Take this fantasy medieval treehouse in the UK, for instance.

The designers at Blue Forest have made themselves a reputation based on their eco real estate designs, and on their treehouses. This one is designed for “upscale” family living, with two lofty towers–one for the adults and one for the children. The children’s section has three medieval towers, and an 80-yard zipline that takes them to an assault course, with running and hiking trails. A trap door leads to an “upstairs” gaming room in the turret, complete with a plasma screen television and gaming console.

The entire eco real estate complex is connected by sturdy, swinging rope bridges spanning from one big tree to another. Inside, thick tree trunks spear up through the living spaces, bringing a rough natural look to the more refined, stained wooden interiors. The wood is hand-split oak and cedar, which is naturally resistant to molds and moisture issues, like warping or rotting.

The designers at Blue Forest specialize in more than residential eco real estate. Their treehouses are popular forest centers, education buildings and even hotels. One of their designs features a slide that leads down into a swimming pool. They also do smaller scale projects, like creating outdoor dining gazebos (many of which are elevated in the treetops).

As for this medieval treehouse, the property may be a dream come true, but you’d probably want a little lightning insurance for this eco real estate.
