As the U.S. presidential race heats up between U.S. President Barack Obama and presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the question looms as to how wind jobs factor into the energy plans of Romney over the next four years if he takes the seat in November. When you look at his energy plans, wind energy job employees and hopefuls wondering about the future of this industry.

The wind energy industry alread is up in the air, so to speak, with the renewal of the relevant wind energy production tax credit in December still uncertain. Attention has gone to the fate of wind jobs since Romney officially was named the Republican Party candidate recently. According to Romney, the plan is for America to indeed become energy-independent by 2020, but the focus primarily is on the development and expanded use of gas and oil.

In fact, Romney actually assigns some blame to Obama for a lag in the U.S. fuels industry. His stance against wind energy was clear when he rejected the Cape Wind project off Nantucket Sound in Massachusetts. In fact, a spokesperson for his campaign recently said he actually is against extending the wind energy production tax credit due to expire at the end of this year.

Romney is optimistic that more than a million jobs will be created in the manufacturing industry due to expanded efforts in gas and oil. Still, states are allowed to make their own choices regarding siting and permitting for green energy production based on their specific resources and needs, according to Romney.
