The U.S. Department of Energy recently announced that it has completed a loan guarantee of almost $1 billion to Agua Caliente Solar LLC for a solar power project that will create 410 green jobs in Arizona.
Of the 410 clean energy jobs created by the Agua Caliente Solar project, 10 of the green jobs are full-time operating jobs, while the remainder of the clean energy jobs includes construction positions. The new solar power employees will work to create and perform at a 290-megawatt photovoltaic solar power building located in Arizona’s Yuma County.
“The Agua Caliente Solar project will bring hundreds of jobs to Arizona, while helping increase the reliability of renewable solar power,” said Steven Chu, U.S. Department of Energy secretary.
Solar Plant to Be One of World’s Largest
The solar power project by Agua Caliente Solar will use slim solar panels that First Solar Inc. produces. The facility will be the largest of its type worldwide, according to NRG Solar LLC, which is sponsoring the clean energy project.
“[The] announcement, in addition to several recent offers of conditional commitments for loan guarantees to solar manufacturing and generation projects, demonstrates the Administration’s ongoing commitment to creating clean energy jobs while bringing innovative renewable energy technologies to the market,” Chu said.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company will buy the Agua Caliente Solar project’s energy and then be able to deliver renewable electricity to California residents. Sophisticated photovoltaic solar power plant technologies will result from the Agua Caliente Solar clean energy facility.
The U.S. Department of Energy has given more than $40 billion in support of 40-plus clean energy projects throughout the country.
