More than just grass will be green this summer at the Wicker Park in Chicago – the home of U.S. Green Technology – where a multitude of thousands of music lovers will descend to rock to new favorite jams as they raise awareness about the planet at the Chicago Green Music Festival on June 23-24.
In just a couple of weeks – right after the official start of summer for 2012 – Windy City residents and visitors will have the chance to take in live original music along with craft, art and food vendors while also showing that they care about Mother Earth. The Chicago Green Music Festival — which is slated to have 20,000 visitors mostly between the ages of 19 and 30 — is sponsored by the Special Service Area for the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods and receives support from the Chicago Center for Green Technology.
While sipping a lemonade, Chicago festival goers will have the opportunity to properly discard those beverage cups at strategically established eco-stations that help visitors to correctly get rid of recyclable and compostable items. The festival further is complete with LED lighting, biodiesel generators and even free parking for bikes – thus encouraging green transportation to and from the eco-friendly summer event.
For people who are less into music and more into technology or simply nibbling food, the Chicago festival will feature businesses that promote and sell green products such as fresh organic food or even solar-powered technology devices. Foodies can expect that their snack and meal times will include disposable plates and silverware that are easy to compost – not Styrofoam, plastic bottles or other materials that are not easily biodegradable and thus harmful to the environment.
Plenty of music from groups such as Aktar Aktar, The Raveonettes and even Passafire will keep the crowd bumping during the two-day Chicago festival, and plenty of entertainment is available for kids and adults alike at the green event.
