Before being green or seeking green collar jobs became fashionable, local neighborhood parks have been providing communities all over the country with a clean place to be close to nature and breathe fresh air. With that goal of good, healthy leisure times in mind, the Alsip Park District just southeast of Chicago is seeking your important vote to win a new Open Air Cinema.
The official CineHope contest is currently being offered until June 15, 2012 to organizations in order to win a 20-foot Open Air Cinema movie system. What makes Alsip Park District a true and deserving contender are the many movie going people in the community whose numbers have grown by the hundreds. The park now services over 300 in attendance for each film.
While initially developing this program with costs and sustainability in mind, Alsip Park District conservatively created the program with only a jumbled assortment of equipment such as a megaphone for a sound system, borrowed projector and inflatable screen that’s actually made for residential use and connected together plus held in place by a maintenance truck.
Their shared recycling efforts are notably green, but this haphazard endeavor needs a serious upgrade!
After seeing this full picture more clearly, Alsip Park District is requesting voters to help the park receive a new system to provide a much needed higher quality movie going experience for its community. Voting takes place on Facebook with a simple “like” of Open Air Cinema. Highly competitive, there are so far 63 entries and over 3500 votes to date. Alsip Park District now sits at #3 in the contest, so close to #1!
Growing a greener community starts locally, with a love of the environment and being outdoors. It’s no wonder that Alsip Park District is asking for everybody’s vote, including strangers. Especially for summer, sharing the experience of Open Air Cinema is fantastic for families, friends and brings a community together like nothing else.
The technology for outdoor theatre has sure advanced from the days of drive-in movie theaters. Open Air Cinema’s inflatable movie screens are state of the art and designed for private, commercial or even government applications. In fact, this green-minded technology includes 3D and gives new meaning to the phrase “enlightened entertainment”.
