Eco real estate comes in all shapes and sizes, but some of the structures with the smallest carbon footprints are also some of the smallest. Humble Homes creates DIY building plans for individuals and small families, which can help them construct their own, studio-sized home. Many of their eco real estate plans incorporate ladders which lead to upper loft levels, but the McG Loft house actually features a staircase, which makes it more accessible for people who have trouble with ladders.
The McG Loft has a total living area of 178 square feet. Walk in, and you’re met with an open living area. Just behind it is the kitchen, the bathroom, and a staircase that wraps up and around to the loft, which has space for a large queen sized mattress, and for storing clothes.
Skylights and large windows open up the small space, making the eco real estate feel larger than it actually is. As is common with small homes, every possible space is utilized. Even the staircase can double as a bookshelf, since the small gaps between the stairs are open for storage.
The eco real estate plans for the McG Loft are $116. If you like one of their plans, but it’s not quite right for your needs, they can make modifications for you. They also have a variety of porch plans that can be mixed and matched with their eco real estate designs.
Can you really build your own eco real estate home? They try to make the plans easy even for amateurs, but they do recommend you call in a pro for some of the more complicated aspects of building, like installing electrical and plumbing fixtures–even though the eco real estate plans to come with instructions for electrical.
