If you are interested in starting up your own green energy company, then you might have a slight challenge on your hands right now. That’s because the uncertainty about government support for green energy jobs in the future following the upcoming presidential election — combined with dropping natural gas prices in 2012 — is giving green energy investors cold feet at a hot time for talk of green jobs.
If talk of budget cuts transforms into action, then money going toward alternative fuel vehicle makers, producers of ethanol and developers of solar energy and wind energy products will dry up. On top of this, natural gas has experienced a major boost. These factors are causing green energy investors to shy away from green energy startups because profitability remains in question for these companies.
Particularly with solar energy companies such as Solyndra going belly-up last year and foreign competition in this green energy industry remaining strong due to China’s lower prices, investors are leery of the green solar energy area. In addition, the introduction of “fracking” has led to an increased supply of natural gas and subsequently less expensive natural gas prices when compared with the costs of renewable energy.
Experts say this November’s election will be tell-tale as far as the future of green energy jobs is concerned. The right political and financial backing is needed to keep this in-demand industry booming for future years.
