A star in “White Collar” on USA is in the process of going green by making an earth-friendly American home of which Mother Nature would be extremely proud. The home of Tim DeKay will be created according to the standards of LEED, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
The new home of the “White Collar” actor, who started the show again on Jan. 17, will feature insulation made up of recycled denim as well as a gray water system. A gray water system takes water that has been used in the home – such as water used for showers, dishes and laundry – and reuses it for other residential purposes, particularly for irrigation.
“We’re going completely green,” DeKay said. “The house that’s there is beyond help, and instead of demolishing it we’re deconstructing it, taking it apart and sending everything that’s salvageable to Habitat for Humanity and things like that.”
Another green aspect of DeKay’s new home is that it will feature wood salvaged from an old Ohio barn, thus preserving trees that help the environment by producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide levels from the air. In addition, the home should have a solar panel for the pool. DeKay’s goal is to have the new green house finished by December.
Green living, however, extends to other areas of the actor’s life as well. For example, all children in DeKay’s extended family get reusable water bottles that bear their names on them for Christmas so that they have their own green canteens.
DeKay still will be working on the house when his new movie, “Magic Mike,” comes out in June, according to current plans. The movie, which is about male strippers, is directed by Steven Soderbergh and will feature Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey.
DeKay’s show, “White Collar,” is a television drama series about how a white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI capture other criminals. Created by Jeff Eastin, the show’s other cast members include Willie Garson and Matt Bomer.

I have stumbled upon this article while looking for news of Tim. I’m glad I did. You do realize that it is Matt Bomer and NOT Tim that will be in Magic Mike? That needs a correction.
