Siemens wind turbine blade factory achieved a company goal more quickly than expected last week when it produced the company’s 5,000th blade in Fort Madison, Wis. Reaching this goal shows that Americans are increasingly interested in the green energy option of wind energy.
Siemens has been in existence for five years, and reaching the green energy goal was expected to take twice as long as it did, company officials said. Besides having a plant in Fort Madison, the green energy company also features plants in Brazil and in Ontario, Canada.
“People make the difference,” said Jim Jones, the Fort Madison plant manager and director of blade operation in the Americas, who spoke to 250 first shift workers last week.
Green Energy Remains at Top of Company and American Agenda
Iowa is second in the nation behind Texas for producing wind energy for electrical purposes. Wisconsin also can be high on that list, as a wind energy business is extremely possible in the state due to its strong wind capacity.
The U.S. government’s decision on how to use its energy production tax credit will dictate how quickly and how much wind energy, along with other green energy options, continues to grow. The green energy company’s plant in Fort Madison runs seven molds to make blades and has adequate room for expansion.
“It all comes down to economics to build them,” Jones said.
Siemens expects wind turbine blade orders to continue to increase as the efficiency of wind energy rises. The green energy company also is striving to develop more efficient ways to transport electricity.
