Kimberly Ovitz, a women’s fashion designer, is making green look pretty chic – and for less.
Ovitz on April 10 launched a lower-priced eco-friendly clothing line. The highly anticipated clothing collection, O by Kimberly Ovitz, formally was launched at Curve, a boutique on New York’s Mercer Street. The collection is made up of dresses and super-soft tees for the spring and summer of 2012 and cost less than $200. A wide variety of colors also are available for these items, including coral, peach, white and black.
The benefit of this more affordable clothing line is that it is totally eco-friendly, being made of Tencel material. Tencel material is a natural manmade fiber also called lyocell, and it essentially is made from wood pulp from sustainable tree farms. Nanotechnology is used to recover or decompose all emissions and solvents.
Tencel material offers several advantages in Ovitz’ book – it is extremely comfortable; the fiber of the eco print is economical in its use of energy and is fully biodegradable; and tencel absorbs moisture 50 percent better than cotton does. Tencel, which is certified by the international Forest Stewardship Council, also is durable, color-rich and antibacterial.
The new Ovitz tencel fashion line that came out in April features modern designs that reflect those of her best-selling pieces. This summer, convincing your significant other or your parents to let you shop till you drop shouldn’t be too hard: You have all the more license to go on a shopping spree for clothes that look good and feel good while also not doing damage to your wallet or to the environment.
Well, at least Mother Nature won’t throw a fit.
