In the Land Down Under, spotting a kangaroo, eating a toast covered with Vegemite and hearing an Aussie’s intriguing accent might be a couple of the first things you think about when planning a trip here. An added bonus of visiting this continent this year is that you can say you’re going on a green ecotourism trip, with Australia offering so many sites and services that promote the beauty of the earth and encourage people to reduce their own ecological footprints.

Australia is the world’s sixth-largest country and is known for its various landscapes, including its beautiful subtropical rainforests, a dry desert and mountain ranges. Perhaps one of the continent’s greatest known wonders is the protected marine site of the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world. In addition, you can visit national parks and conservation areas in Australia. About 11 percent of the continent is protected.

If you are an outdoors person, Australia has a wealth of entertaining opportunities for you. For instance, take advantage of the chance to go sailing, hiking, camping or even diving on this continent. For the animal lover, Australia also is a top choice because this single continent essentially features 7 percent of all of the earth’s species – which equals to twice the quantity of animals that both Europe and the United States have, combined. After having lost about 20 of these species due to extinction over the past couple of centuries, the continent is paying special attention to the conservation of its animals as well as to the protection of its coastline from the negative effects of pollution.

An EcoGuide Australia Certification Program actually rewards nature and ecotour guides on this continent who accomplish certain standards and competencies. As a visitor to Australia, you can even participate in conservation activities if you wish. You additionally can learn about the culture of the region through the indigenous people there and learn to appreciate them, as a whopping 145 languages are spoken by the indigenous Aboriginals.

The Land Down Under is overly ambitious in the green ecotourism movement. As a result, now is an ideal time to go down under to this continent, enjoy nature/culture and do your part to preserve the beauty of the earth – while also finally tasting that popular bitter Vegemite paste on a few crackers.
