Besides obvious selections including Microsoft (no. 76 on the top list) and Google (no. 1 on the top list), here are three other big green companies that have made Fortune Magazine’s top 100 best companies to work for in 2012.

Chesapeake  Energy – this company ranked #18 in the best companies ranking and features more than 10,500 employees. In the green arena, it actually has its own GreenFrac program, which was founded in October 2009 to pinpoint the different types of chemical additives often used in the hydraulic fracturing process to make sure that they are as environmentally friendly as possible. It is headquartered in Oklahoma City.

Whole Foods Market – this company ranked #32 on the list and has more than 60,000 employees. It aims to be a leader in environmental stewardship and has won numerous green awards between 2004 and 2010, such as the Green Power Leadership Award. In addition, it also includes in-store educational information regarding wind energy. The company is located in Austin, Texas.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts – this company ranked #85 on the list and features more than 12,000 employees. This company features many green initiatives, including developing its own backyard eco-garden and letting meeting planners choose among earth-friendly options for developing sustainable events. Guests also can choose not to have their bed linens and towels changed every day in order to save energy and save the environment. Energy-saving bulbs and air-conditioning units further make this company extremely green. The business has several locations in both Canada and the United States, including Santa Fe and St. Petersburg, Fla.
