Nowadays, you can use software to track almost anything – from energy use to the time you clock in every day. Now, green startup Wind Analytics is putting that technology to good use, using software to track just how much wind blows around your property. Although solar power is all the rave right now, there still is room for wind energy. Wind Analytics knows this, and it is determined to lead the industry new heights – in the form of wind turbines.

Wind Analytics has developed a wind siting tool for the small wind market. The patent-pending, web-based software tool quickly and accurately assesses a property’s wind resource for wind turbine siting purposes. The company received a New York State Renewable Energy Research and Development Authority grant in 2008 to develop this green software tool.

“We collectively saw a need in the market for precise wind assessments to help property owners make the most informed decisions about where to place their wind turbines to get the best results,” Wind Analytics says.

Wind Analytics is not shy about why its green services are better than solar in many ways. A huge advantage of using a wind turbine over a solar panel is that a wind turbine that is well-sited still generates more energy than a solar photovoltaic system can, and for less money. Perhaps the most obvious benefit is that a wind turbine is capable of producing energy both day and night, while solar systems are limited to the sunshine of the day.

Generating clean energy and saving on utility bills are a couple other main benefits of using a wind turbine as well. A homeowner easily can save money while also saving the environment. In fact, Wind Analytics’ website allows a homeowner to preliminarily enter his or her address on the site to determine his or her property’s wind energy potential.

From avoiding land obstructions to choosing the best of 200 wind turbines on the market, Wind Analytics is determined to help make wind technology much more mainstream and affordable for the masses. The wind is simply passing us by, so why not play catchup?
